The Netty Johnson Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The Netty Johnson Memorial Scholarship

The Schoolbag Foundation was established in November 2022, to assist with funding the Netty Johnson Memorial Scholarship in Belize. This scholarship is in memory of Mrs. Netty Johnson better known as Ms. Netty. She was an educator who taught Integrated Science and Art during her 40-year career. Ms. Netty taught both in the United States and in Belize, her country of birth. In honor of her passion of educating young minds, her sons felt it was fitting to start The Netty Johnson Memorial Scholarship in Belize to pay for tuition and books for incoming high school freshmen for the four years of high school since secondary education is not fully funded in Belize.

Antonio Jimenez

Read Bio

Antonio Jimenez is a retired teacher who now works in the field of journalism. As a teacher, Tony, as he is known by all, was a teacher of the Sciences and Geography. This he did for twenty-one fruitful years. In the small community of Orange Walk Town, Belize, where he was born and still lives, he is still referred to as ‘teacha’ or ‘maestro’. The teacher in him has a passion for Geography as it teaches the world and the Earth. He believes that the more successful people keenly understand the dynamics of the interaction between our Earth and humans who live on it.

Tony completed a Master’s in Education from La Universidad del Desarrollo Interamericano in Chetumal, Q. Roo, Mexico. This degree was completed fully in the Spanish language. The challenge to submit all assignments in the Spanish language is the epitome of what he stands for—hard work, no matter the hurdle life presents.

Tony is the proud father of two children, Anahi and Michel who presently are in Primary School. Yet, Tony will always give of his time when he believes it will help someone and his country. As Chairman of the Netty Johnson Memorial Scholarship he puts his experience and works along with his two ex-students now colleagues, Jeannelle and Julio, to push the values Ms. Netty herself would have endorsed. Tony and Ms. Netty were colleagues and friends at Muffles College where both were a part of the Science department. Ms. Netty instilled in him the values of being a friend and of standing up for the truth.
