Helping Educate the Children of Belize

The Schoolbag Foundation

About Us

Our Mission in Belize

In Belize, education is more than a pathway — it is hope, dignity, and the promise of a brighter future. For many families in the Orange Walk District, the dream of sending a child to school comes with real challenges: long distances, limited resources, and financial barriers that make learning feel out of reach.

The Schoolbag Foundation exists to change that.

Our mission began in Orange Walk, inspired by the life and legacy of Mrs. Netty Johnson, a beloved community member who dedicated her years to uplifting children and families. In her honor, every scholarship we have awarded so far has gone to students from the Orange Walk District — ensuring her spirit continues to guide and bless the young people she cared for.

But our mission reaches beyond one district. We believe every child in Belize deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed. Through scholarships and school supplies.

Education transforms lives. And together, we are helping Belizean children step confidently into their future.

The Schoolbag Foundation is a non-profit organization established exclusively for school age children in Belize to experience the enhancement of education within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3), including for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. The purposes for which it is organized are as follows: (a) Provide financial scholarships to students in Belize for tuition and books on a yearly basis. (b) Provide financial assistance to the construction and renovations of school buildings. (c) Provide financial assistance to the purchasing of school supplies and school furniture. (d) Provide financial assistance to the purchasing of fine arts and sporting extracurricular equipment for students.

Meet Dylan Acosta — guided by faith, driven by purpose, and ready to build his future.

Dylan Acosta

Dylan is our 2026 incoming freshman and the proud recipient of the Netty Johnson Memorial Scholarship, an honor reserved for students who demonstrate exceptional character, dedication, and potential. This fall, he will begin his high school journey at Orange Walk Technical High School in Orange Walk Town, Belize.

Dylan is a gifted student with a curious mind and a deep fascination with science. He dreams of becoming an engineer one day—drawn to the idea of creating, building, and solving problems that make life better for others. His ambition is fueled by love: he hopes to support his mother and younger siblings in the future, giving back to the family that has supported him so faithfully.

Despite his youth, Dylan carries a faith that feels far beyond his years. Every Sunday, he serves God and his community as an altar boy, offering his time with humility, devotion, and a quiet strength that speaks volumes about his character.

We are truly excited for Dylan as he begins his high school career. His determination, kindness, and faith set him apart, and we are honored to walk alongside him as he steps into this new chapter of his life.
